Key Stage 3 English Enhancement
English Enhancement occurs in KS3. Students are allocated the extra
support of English Enhancement as a result of standardised testing, teacher
assessment or prior attainment. These students will follow the normal KS3
English curriculum, but will take English Enhancement in order to assist their
progress and raise their attainment.
The English Enhancement programme will
address specific areas of weakness, most commonly, reading comprehension,
grammar and consistent verb tense; teacher student ratios will be kept as low
as possible and, when available, other support teachers will be used. Should a
student no longer be deemed to require English Enhancement, they will return to
the full KS3 timetable and take another language option.
Assessment is ongoing in order to ascertain
progress and suitability. Should a student complete the academic year in
English Enhancement there will be an end of year internal examination.
