During KS3 students will study a wide variety of
topics spread across the three main Sciences – Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
These topics will provide students with a through grounding in Science,
preparing them for study of Science at IGCSE level and beyond. The course includes
36 units of teaching spread over three years. The first 28 units cover the 2014
Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for Science. The final eight units cover GCSE
preparation and skills, extended projects, a final end of Key Stage 3 exam, and
a revision period leading up to the exam.
The aims of the course are to provide students with a
good, basic understanding of a wide range of Sciences to prepare them to study
Science at IGCSE level. Students are also encouraged to develop investigation
skills during the KS3 course and to become analytical thinkers. Students are
encouraged to apply their scientific knowledge to real-world situations.
Method of Assessment
Students will be given an assessment after each topic
– this test will cover the content studied and will range from levels from
level 3 to level 7. Students will also be assessed on the whole syllabus at the
end of each year, this information will dictate their set in the next academic
