Interhouse encourages
friendly competition and a sense of community across the school. Pupils are
grouped into 4 house teams. These are Red, Green, Yellow and Blue. Each pupil
is placed in a house when they start school and remains a member of this team
throughout their time at the school. Siblings are placed in the same house team.
House captains from Year 3 are elected and encouraged to provide positive
leadership to the children in their house. On Sports Days the houses compete against
each other and the cup is awarded to the winning team.
The system aims to
encourage a real sense of pride and achievement. It fosters community spirit
and gives the children an opportunity to contribute to something bigger, which
involves children for all year groups. Interhouse competitions are exciting
events designed to give pupils the opportunity to experience competitive sport.
There are 4 Interhouse activities during the year, each designed to allow the pupils
to use the skills they have been learning in PE within a challenging and
competitive environment, with the aim to score as many points as they can for
their house. Each event is fiercely contested and winners announced during
assemblies.
In KS1 the children are
awarded house points for academic excellence and effort in daily lessons and
when displaying exemplary behaviour, kindness and respect towards each
other. The house captains calculate the
number of house points awarded throughout each week and then a trophy is
presented to the overall house winner every Thursday during the Key Stage 1
assembly. A healthy competitive team
spirit prevails!
In KS1 pupils take part
in Scatter Ball, Football Skills, Target Games and Sports Day.
