 Key Stage 3

Key Stage 3

Academic Studies at KS3:

While every age is special and challenging in its own way, the Key Stage Three age range, 11-14 years, involves a fresh start in which the pupils cease to be the oldest pupils in a home-room teaching system and become the youngest pupils in a new system where they have to move from one specialist teaching room to another to receive their education.  This change is a challenge for many pupils and requires a major development in their personal organisational skills, marking another step towards adulthood.

The Role of the School at KS3 is:

·             To develop skills and knowledge for lifelong learning

·         To introduce to a wide range of subjects and studies

·         To create independent, self-disciplined and self-aware students

·         To lay the foundations for success at IGCSE and beyond

At MIS we believe that every child should be able to reach their full academic potential through high quality teaching, a disciplined and positive learning environment, and a strong system of Academic and Pastoral Support. Academic support is provided by Subject Teachers, Heads of Subjects, the Head of Year, Head of Key Stage 3 and the Head of Secondary (see staff list) and all work closely with form tutors to ensure that students are given the opportunity to achieve academically, to the best of their ability.

The Key Stage Three Strategy

Our strategy is designed to ensure that we make the most of the time between the early education that the pupils received in Primary and the point at which they take up their IGCSE subjects.  Its aims and objectives are to make sure that all pupils:

·         get off to a flying start in the new system

·         experience more exciting and interesting lessons

·         are actively involved in the lesson, thinking hard

·         are able to do more things for themselves

·         make rapid progress and achieve higher standards

·         are included, stimulated and make progress

·         have extra support if they are not living up to their potential

Progress Leader Year 7-10

At Mesaieed International School, we have high expectations of all of our students, both academically, and with their personal, social and emotional wellbeing. We encourage all of our students to participate and engage fully in all areas of school life, with a mission to inspire and empower our students for a great future. As Progress Leader for Years 7-10, my job is to support the students to achieve these goals.

Progress Leader for Year 7-10 is an exciting and incredibly rewarding role. I am fortunate to be able to work closely with our exceptional Heads of Years, in addition to working directly with students. My role is to offer additional support when needed, to pass on praise and rewards, or simply just be available for the students to come and see me for a chat. All young people need direction during their youth, and many will make mistakes or misinformed choices, another side to my role is to enforce sanctions and offer guidance when our student’s behaviour falls short of our high expectations. My role is predominantly pastoral, monitoring the student’s attendance, behaviour and personal growth; however, I am also able to keep a close eye on progress and academic success.

At Mesaieed International School, all of our staff are dedicated to supporting all of our students with whatever needs they might have, with this in mind, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school should you have any questions or concerns.
