Home School Diaries
We will provide the children with Home School Communication Diaries in which children will make a note of their homework as well as important messages that can be sent home. This is a useful tool for communication between both parent and teacher and is checked on a daily basis. Please do come in if you have queries about anything else - we are always happy to speak to you.
To make learning more interesting and relevant for the children, part of our curriculum is integrated, so that we are able to make links across a range of subjects. These subjects are Science, Art, Design and Technology, History and Geography. There is a different subject focus each term.
Term 1 and 2 Rain Forests and Mountains (Geography, History and Design and Technology Focus)
Term 3 Fairground and Forces (Design and Technology and Science Focus)
Term 4 Light (Science Focus)
Term 5 20th Century History and Living Things (Science Focus)
Term 6 The Coastal Environment (Geography Focus)
In addition, the children will study Literacy, Numeracy, P.E., I.C.T., Music, French, and cooking skills.
For homework, the children will be expected to read regularly (preferably with an adult) and to work on their reading target. Please encourage your child to read at least five times each week. Children also have access to the school library books which they may borrow on a weekly basis.
Numeracy: Time should be spent at home learning multiplication tables up to x12. Homework will be set as appropriate to reinforce/consolidate classwork.
Literacy homework will consist of weekly spelling, punctuation and grammar exercises and will be given on a Sunday and Tuesday.
Science and Humanities homework will be set on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. This may consist of a research type activity on a topic that is taught at the time.
We hope your child enjoys their time in Year 6.
